“This best ever stagecraft-driven production of WICKED cleverly manipulates their well chosen and beautiful animated state-of-the-art video-walls
to set the stage for each scene, and is a unique techno-triumph.”
“Matt Osborne’s lighting design is one of the most adventurous community theatre lighting designs I’ve ever seen with a large amount of LED screens
used to display settings on. At times, it’s a bit over the top, but on the whole, it’s inventive and very clever.”
“The backbone of this production was a spectacular projected animation, which used large moving LED screens trucked across the stage, taking the
audience on a kaleidoscope around Oz. The images ranged from the inside of a clock to a hurricane. All were especially vivid due to the intimate
seating of the Glen Street Theatre.
The entire multi-media – which must have taken hundreds of hours to program – was custom made by the
lighting/set designer Matt Osborne”
WICKED the musical
Lighting, Vision and Set Design by Matt Osborne
Matt worked with Manly Musical Society to develop a techical and cost effective solution to stage WICKED.
The production lends itsel to lots of big extravagent sets, having worked previously with large LED screen installations Matt wanted to move
away from a simple LED backdrop and include custom LED builds as part of tyhe set design, a concept the Director Declan Moore was onboard with.
The set comprised of an upstage arch with LED panels and lighting to create the familiar 13 hr clock, and two moving LED trucks which could be
positioned to create smaller stage settings. The truck also featured a buit in staricase to creat perfomace levels and a brige crossover.
Because of the custom screen surfaces all the contect was custom made by Matt Osborne to suit.
